Local lad Luke Amos arrived at the Lamex in January 2018; signed by Boro’ manager Darren Sarll on loan from Premier League giants Tottenham Hotspur. Born in Welwyn Garden City, playing for Stevenage obviously wouldn’t be a million miles from home for the “industrious central midfielder“; a player who had been on the books at White Hart Lane since July 2013. The gifted midfielder had the talent, but the opportunities? Not so much at his parent club – which is where Boro’ came into the equation.

Unlike some of the young talent borrowed from top flight clubs by Boro’ over the years, Amos came to us having already put himself on the fringes of the Spurs first team. He’d appeared twice on the bench for the North London side, though not quite getting a taste of the action under Mauricio Pochettino. At the time, it didn’t seem like there would be too much more of a wait until his breakthrough. Our role, however, was to nudge him along in his development. And we’d say that he definitely brought a different level to our play in the brief time he was with us.

Luke Amos: Before Boro’

Boro’ wouldn’t be the side to introduce him to senior football. That honour went to Southend United, with whom the midfielder played for on loan during the 2016-7 League One campaign. More often than not, though, you’ll have found Amos turning out for Spurs’ Development Squad, Under-18s and Under-21s. He also turned out at England U18 level prior to his arrival at Stevenage.
