Our time in cahoots with Flackwell Heath is pretty limited to say the least; our paths not crossing since the late 1980s. After losing our first game with the Heathens in a 1984-5 league campaign in which both meetings came at the back end of term, we’ve now won three on the spin. Two of those, however, were FA Vase Round One ties; the first in ’85 and the second in ’89. In 2007, they quit the Isthmian League for the Hellenic League.
Flackwell Heath: The Facts
Wilks Park
Heath End Road, Flackwell Heath, Buckinghamshire, HP10 9EA
From near the town of High Wycombe they come, do the Heathens. And with them comes more than 100 years of history wedged under their belt. For the best part of 70 years, the club shared their time between the High Wycombe and District League and the Great Western Combination. In 1976, however, came a change of scene: the Hellenic League. Promotion from Division One was earned at the first go. Five years were then spent in the Premier Division, followed by two in the Athenian League. After that folded, it was into the Isthmian League.
The 1984-5 season saw Flackwell Heath compete in the Isthmian (or Servowarm) League Division Two North for the first time. It just so happens that a certain Stevenage Borough were also making their debut in that same competition too! Oh, what japes! The first meeting, however, didn’t take place until March 1985, with both the home and away legs making up two of our last nine games of term. The first was at their gaff, and a less-than-successful experience; Martin Sperrin scoring the consolation in our 3-1 defeat at Wilks Park.
