Aaand so to the latest bring a friend bonanza for season ticket holders down at the Boro’. It’s where your mate gets to come down for free; to see just what it is that’s making season ticket holders think about whether they can even bring themselves to the match. And that’s before we even start to prattle on about how such promos tend to coincide with a home defeat. Oh lordy, we think we’re in need of a lie down. And quick.
Must we talk about Forest Green? Not for the first time this term, the solar-powered side from Stroud gave us a goal’s head-start. And not for the first time this term, we still ended up on the wrong side of the result. To be fair, our cause took a low blow thanks to the original refereeing stylings of Graham Salisbury (On tour ’til April! Ed.). It was a striker, however, who was sent for an early shower. Not our entire back four and goalkeeper.
Stevenage v Yeovil Town: The Lowdown
The Referee
After the officiating tour de force that we saw midweek, it’s a tough act for Nick Kinseley to follow. But that he must. Things didn’t go so bad last time he was town. That was against a side from somewhere out west too…
P18 W9 D5 L4 F29 A17; last result: Stevenage 5-2 Swindon Town, 02/12/2017
The Opposition
P29 W6 D13 L10 F39 A37; last result: Yeovil Town 3-0 Stevenage, 28/10/2017
This is the 30th time that we’ve met Yeovil. That places ’em on a par with Saffron Walden Town; lagging behind only Morecambe and W*king (The less-successful double act? Ed.). We’re having a pennant embroidered as we speak. As for our head-to-head record against them? Well, it’s not ‘great’. It’s more than five years since we last beat the Glovers; a 95th-minute equaliser from Ben Whitfield saw us drop two points indoors last term.
Oh, did we mention how it’s been 20 years since we last beat them at home? No? Oh well. It ain’t important…
The Form
It’s Valentine’s week and it’s nice that Yeovil come to us cuddled up a place and a point beneath us in the table. The form table, however, paints an unnerving picture. The Glovers have lost one in the last six and three in the last ten. We haven’t won since 27 January, while they haven’t lost since 20 January. If there’s ever a good time for General Sarllito to find some way of bucking a trend, this would be right up there to have a chance of a win.
To win (or maybe even draw) also needs us to be the first side in five games to put the ball in the Glovers’ goal. And preferably not from an offside position Matt. It’s a remarkable run of clean sheets for a team below us in the table. And we mean that earnestly. The good news is that Yeovil’s away record is worse than ours. You read that right. With three-quarters of their points coming at home, it’s a window of opportunity for Boro’. Isn’t it?
