The bearded basketball guru and Houston Rockets superstar scooped the NBA MVP basketball award, beating four-time winner LeBron James of the Cleveland Cavaliers. Harden has become the third player from the Rockets to win the prestigious award; becoming the first-ever in his career.

The prolific 28-year-old has finished as a runner-up twice; this time, however, he was good enough to become the most valuable player in NBA basketball. James Harden was top of the league with 30.4 points per game.  He also helped Houston Rockets to clinch a leading position with 65 wins.

He added to his tally with an 8.8 assist and a 5.4 rebound record that led to the Rockets to the number one seed during the Western Conference playoff. Unfortunately, the Houston Rockets fell behind the Champion Golden State Warriors in the game 7th game of the finale. During his tenure at Oklahoma City Thunders in 2012, he won the former honour that led him to be a well-recognised wild symbol in the NBA league as fruits are on Australia pokies online games.

Other awards of the night

After ending his team’s five-year playoff drought, the Philadelphia 76ers guard Ben Simmons was named the NBA Rookie of the Year. Simmons faced a fierce competition from Utah Jazz’s, Donovan Mitchell and Boston Celtic forward maestro Jayson Tatum.

The coach of the year award went to Toronto Raptors Dwane Casey. Casey was then sacked last month by the Raptors, although he did a marvellous job during his term as coach. Did you know you can now bet on sports-stars? Jackpotscasino shares how sports-betting options work.

The man who was appreciated for thwarting opponents was Rudy Gorbet of Utah Jazz. He was part of the Jazz defence that ranked second; conceding  the least goals in the NBA ranking.

However, the man to scoop the NBA MVP award seven times did not attend the awards function. LeBron James is reportedly in grill talks with Cleveland Cavaliers for a contract extension worth $35.6 million for next season. Rumours are he might be considering becoming a free agent.
