Yes, that’s right – we’re bringing Exeyback and them other [RUDE WORD, plural] don’t know how to act. Last week’s 1-0 defeat at Wycombe Wandering Lonely As A Cloud saw Stevenage Football Club enter the new millennium of competitive fixtures played. If that was game number 2000 by our records, then Exeter City indoors is number 2001. But, our long list of “wot boro’ dun” include four, yes FOUR, expungified results – so was it really a false dawn? Are we really on 1997? And should those Eastern Floodlit Kickabouts really count?
The matter not up for debate got a little lost in there, didn’t it. Let’s start that again. Exeter City at the Lamex, then, and the team that’s polling second worst in our humble division. But, as you fine folk will no doubt have been told at school, you should always beware of Grecians bearing gifts. That’s because our guests this weekend are a peculiar sort. Yes, they sit below 22 other sides in the table – but they’ve won as many games as Carlisle in eighth place. OK, so two isn’t exactly an impressive number, but it’s only one less than our three.
Stevenage v Exeter City: Take It To The Chorus…
Of course, there’s a bloody good reason that Exeter are where they are and not where Carlisle are. Quite simply, two wins out of eight would count for more if they hadn’t lost the other six. Yes, no team has lost more times than the Devon outfit so far this term. It’s a curious case, you’d have to agree. And it’s made even more curiouser when you realise that Exeter’s two wins have both been on the road. So, basically, we’d be better off playing this one out at Sid James Park if we wanted to be sure of taking all three points this weekend.
Four point and seven places separate us from them in the League Two table. For this match, the odds are quite even, yet Stevenage are favourites thanks to decent knocks in our last two home outings. If you take out that rather piss-poor goal we let Crawley have two weeks ago, we’ve looked solid enough and good enough, you’d think, for the win here. Of course, pride comes before a fall. Last time we had the Grecians around for tea, they took two biscuits and left us with none. We also can’t believe we just went with that analogy.
Ah well, time to forget about it. Let’s get our Exey on…
