Jamie Jellis is the highly promising attacking midfielder who turned pro with us in January 2020 after making a big impression while out on loan. Both Aylesbury United and Hitchin Town made use of the lad’s talents during the first half of the 2019-20 campaign; our turn, perhaps, coming in the second half. Jellis first arrived at the Lamex as a first year scholar and made quick progress; rising through the ranks despite a series of injuries to earn his place in our first team. But it was out on loan that he’d earn his stripes to start with.
Jellis seemed to be on an upward curve; time, age and increasing experience playing into his hands. But the global coronavirus pandemic struck and ended the action for the 2019-20 season. With no further chance to prove himself out on loan or back at his parent club, the midfielder received the unfortunate news that we weren’t going to offer him a contract for the 2020-1 campaign. For all the promise shown, the player wasn’t a chance that boss Alex Revell could perhaps afford; trimming the squad right back with little wriggle room.
