Colchester Patter

“No regrets, Kit. That’s what they’d say” – We’ve decided to steal borrow a line from Neil Jordan’s Michael Collins for a reason, even if it’s not immediately obvious. It has no real significance except in its literal form. Taking on Colchester United tonight, who are just five behind us, gives us a chance to set a marker for the season’s run-in.

Recent form has kept the points tally ticking over but we sense there we are coming closer to the point at which the New Boro’ Order clicks, and someone is taken to the proverbials. The league table says we’re playing catch-up, but we’re a point behind Notts County with a game in hand. It’s Carlisle we need to perhaps concern ourselves with more.

Somewhere there is a cliché being bellowed. If Boro’ win all their games, including a home match-up with Carlisle, then we’re doing that “sneak-into-the-playoffs” thing that Boro’ so like to do. Funny. We could do with a favour from Graham Westley’s Preston tonight, but we are also in need of doing ourselves a favour. Three points. We don’t really care how.

Our bums are already squeaking. There are still 11 games to go. Plenty of twists and turns as they would say. But it’s as we pointed to above – let’s make sure there are no regrets at the end of the season.
