Champions League Betting: Favourite Teams and Players

By BoroGuide

The Champions League is the elite club competition in the world of football. This makes it a firm favourite with fans of the sport. They relish the opportunity to watch the best players in action and place bets on who will score the most goals or which team will win each game and/or become overall champions. And it makes Champions League betting such a prized market.

There are many different Champions League odds, some of which represent better value than others. When you are placing a bet, you should remember that it’s not all about the team that you love. You should always bet with your head rather than your heart. With that in mind, it pays to check the odds for the teams and players that are competing to win.

Champions League Betting: The outright winner

Predicting the outright winner is the most popular Champions League betting market. The current market feature familiar names, Bayern Munich, Manchester City and Liverpool with the lowest odds. This means that they do not represent the best value if you want to make decent money on a win.

Taking a chance on Chelsea may be a better option, given that they are the current outsiders in the betting. Placing a wager on the relatively young squad is a risk but Frank Lampard’s men are doing pretty well in the Premier League right now so a win in Europe is not completely out of the question.

Choosing the top goalscorer

If betting on the winner of the Champions League is not of interest, the top goalscorer market might be more appealing. Based on the teams that are thought to have the best chance of winning, some of the players favoured to score the most goals in the competition are Robert Lewandowski from Bayern Munich, Gabriel Jesus and Raheem Sterling from Manchester City and Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah from Liverpool.

However, it’s not just players from the top three clubs in the betting that could represent good value when it comes to placing a wager. Erling Haaland of Borussia Dortmund scored 10 goals in the Champions League last time around and there is no reason why he cannot be on target several times again this season, depending on Borussia’s progress in the competition. Other contenders include Neymar from PSG and Romelu Lukaku of Inter Milan.

You should also never rule out old hands like Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi. Depending on the progress of Juventus and Real Madrid they may be looking to add to their impressive Champions League goal tallies. After all, they are currently the top scorers in the competition overall; Ronaldo has 130 and Messi has 117.

As the most famous and lucrative European football competition continues, it will be interesting to see if the favoured teams in the betting will progress as expected. If they do then players like Lewandowski and Mane are likely to fulfil their promise in the goalscoring stakes. Whatever the overall result, it seems set to be an exciting journey to the final.
