Walsall (H)

It’s a home game that had to be rescheduled – and we’re sticking with the date announced as our FIFA 20 Verdict gets to work on Walsall indoors. For those of us who remember the time before Covid-19, this match should’ve gone down a month ago on 29 February. But it rained its arse off instead – back in the good old days when games were called off for more mundane reasons like “being too wet”. Anyway, it’s the Saddlers and we’ve got the win over Scunthorpe to build on. Another three points here please lads…

FIFA 20 Verdict: Boro’ v Walsall

Hmm. Looks like we got carried away by our weekend win over Scunthorpe. With Danny Newton back in our ranks, we went two up top for the first time in yonks. And, 15 minutes in, it looked like it was working. But then our defence went to jelly and somehow we went in at the break two goals behind. And the half time stats didn’t make for amazing reading; the Saddlers commanding the shot count and possession share.

To be fair, we did come back strong in the second half and took the game to Walsall. We ended up getting more shots away than them (15-8) come full time. So, in many ways, it was the chances we missed that did the most damage; CMS hitting the bar, for example. In the end, we gave ourselves too much to do. By the time Charlie Lakin got our second, the clock was in the red. And our points haul from this one was a nice round zero.
