Oh no! The snow. It goes! It’s week on since the nation lost its collective head over the snow, and normality has swept back into town with an undeserving swagger about it. Think Teddy Sheringham and a managerial role. If he ever gets another, that is. Anyway, down came the snow from the sky like the Hollywood-prescribed version of Christmas we all know. And the Lamex pitch was left looking like the freezer shelf you really should defrost.
The outcome? Our clash with Mansfield indoors had to bite a rather frozen bullet, much like a number of other games across the land. No so much strife in store this week, however. Well, not off the pitch. Quite how things pan out on the pitch depend on which Boro’ turn up – and what Crewe Alexandra plan to do about it. “Nothing” is the answer we’re hoping for from the Railwaymen, but you just can’t rely on teams to roll over any more…

Not seen in these parts (or parts that we’ve been seen in) since last season, Graham Horwood takes charge of this weekend’s encounter. One win in the last five of ours he’s reffed is badstat. Goodstat, however, is that we have only lost once in his presence so far.

Our guests this weekend have dealt General Sarllito a double whammy of unwanted milestones. Not only did he oversee our first-ever defeat to ’em last term at our place, he’s also the first Boro’ gaffer to lose at Gresty Road. Oh, and that was also the first time that we failed to score against Crewe. Apart from these ‘blips’, our head-to-head record is still very much in our favour; five wins in nine games none too shabby a return so far.
The Form
The form guide can often be far less predictable than, say, your chances with free spins at Spinit Casino. Then again, there are reasons why Crewe are below us in the table. Even if they didn’t show themselves up at their place earlier this term. And that’s more due to our, let’s say, issue with playing away from home than anything else. The same can be said for our guests, though. The question is will that show when it comes to Saturday?
Crewe either win or lose on the road. No draws. And it’s more often the latter, with four victories to 13 defeats from their 17-date roadshow so far. That means they’ve lost three-quarters of their away days, which is almost encouraging for us. Not for the first time with these sort of stats, there’s a swift kick to the knackers incoming. Crewe’s last match before the snow was away from home at Lincoln, and they won it 4-1. Where we lost 3-0.
So, we’re none the wiser. As usual.
