It was a goal as spawny as they come, but who really cares? Ben Kennedy put the mockers on Aaron Ramsdale, and the Chesterfield ‘keeper fluffed his lines. Yeah, no-one is going to remember the game itself. But this was our first win on the road since a very long time ago. Now we can no longer point at our away record and laugh (Or cry? Ed.), it’s back indoors to see if we can make it 11 unbeaten at the Lamex as Swindon pay another visit.
And, for the second game in a row, our opposition is a team against whom we put five past in our most recent meeting. You’ll soon find out why, however, this fact will be filed under ‘That’s All Very Well And Good, But…‘. The prize for beating Swindon last time was the chance to play a mega club in the Cup. Like most things in life, though, eventual reality crushed that hope. The reward for winning this is even more underwhelming.
More so even than Reading.
Stevenage v Swindon Town: The Lowdown
The Referee
Darren Drysdale. We’ve won both of the two league fixtures he’s taken charge of since we came up from the Conference, but that’s about it. He’s not been seen in these here parts since TezzaShezza was chief bossman.

The Opposition
In the shared tale of Swindon and Stevenage, times were lean for us after our first-ever meeting yielded that FA Cup win. We didn’t manage to score in the next four encounters, while a PaintPot Trophy tie that ended all square went the Robins’ way on pelanties. Since then, though, things have got better. So, D:Ream were kinda right. We’ve won the last two out of two at home; scoring at least twice in each of the last three.
The Form
Yes, we’ve not lost indoors for 10 games. And yes, we put five past this lot when they came up for the FA Cup earlier this season. No, it still don’t make us feel all warm and fuzzy about our chances. This is because no side in League Two has done better on the road so far than Swindon. With nine wins from 13 away from home, the Robins more often than not return to their nest (Really going with that? Ed.) with a full haul of points.
If that didn’t concern you enough, how about the fact that they’ve only failed to score once on the road. That was up at Notts County, back in September. And we’ve let in at least one goal in all but three of our games at home this season. That’s three in 14, by the way. Mind you Robins’ fans, runs that date back to September are ending all over the shop now. And we’ve scored more than two-thirds of our goals at the Lamex.
So, let’s be ‘avin it…
