So, is it more that Chesterfield were that bad than us turning a corner? Or that Lincoln City are chugging along nicely in League Two this term? Or maybe even a combination of both? Either way, one thing we won’t need to debate all night long is Boro’s run on the road right now. In the league, it’s a barren spell that is stretching back seven matches. Our hopes of ending 2017 on a high, then, look rather like Colin from accounts the day after he sunk a bottle-and-a-half of tequila at your work Christmas do. Fire up the Quattro. We’re off to Crawley.
It’s your last chance, then, to see Boro’ go into battle in this calendar year colloquially known as 2017. As social norm dictates at this time of year, we must meet our obligation and exclaim to whoever is in earshot “cor, ain’t it gone quick”. We started this International Year of Sustainable Tourism for Development (ask the UN) with an unhappy adventure on the road; losing 1-0 at Doncaster Rovers. And so we end the year on our travels too. Will Boro’ book-end 2017 in similar fashion? Or wreak havoc with our editor’s compulsive need for symmetry?

This is a record-breaking occasion of sorts. This is our 25th encounter with Crawley Town; lifting the Red Devils above Grays and into our list of our top 10 most-played opponents. Luckily, we know you’re already stocked up on underwhelming party poppers and cheap fizzy plonk. Bring it along! This is a historic milestone; it’s probably the most historic you’ll see this season (Ronnie Henry? Ed.). Overall, we have a favourable record to protect. In 24 prior outings, we’ve won 12 – exactly half for the mathematically challenged. And we’re unbeaten in three.
The Form:
It’s no secret that we’re not in the finest nick, so we won’t bang on about it again. Crawley, meanwhile, are on a mini-surge. They may still be three points below us in the table, but they’ve taken 10 points from the last 18 on offer. And seven of those have come at the Checkatrade.com Stadium. That contrasts with their overall record indoors for the season, however. They’ve won 11 points at home; a joint league worst with FGR and Swindon. Our 10-point haul on the road doesn’t look so bad in that context, though we didn’t exactly do well at Swindon.
