Mr Gloverman (Shabba!)

Updated:

Yeo, ho, ho and a bottle of rum. And why not? After zoning out and leaving Forest Green free to raid the larder last week, it could be the difference between a happy Saturday evening… and a not-so-happy one. It’s time for Boro’ to swing back into action, and to Yeovil we go. If you normally look at the fixture list, this news ought not to be too much of a shock to you. To know what’s coming, after all, isn’t a bad thing. This isn’t a luxury we seem to have with our darling club at the moment, however.

Are we suffering from a slight existential crisis? Boro’s last three outings have been quite an eclectic collection of results; the good, the bad and the ugly if you will (Though not in that order, right? Ed.). In some respects, it’s surely worse to lose indoors to Forest Green than it is to Luton? At least with the Hatters, you’d expect them to show some form of realisation that they’re favourites for promotion. Forest Green, on the other hand… That is before we even get to Accrington, and how that win fits into the bigger picture for us and the league at large.

The Opposition:

Last week, a historic moment as FGR became our joint fourth most played opposition with our 28th meeting. We’ve read and re-read that sentence and we’re sure it makes sense (Erm? Ed.). This week, however, another milestone; this being our 29th head-to-head with Yeovil Town. It puts the Glovers clear fourth on that list. So, sorry Forest Green. But, also, not sorry all things considered. For our south western chums, what have the 28 past encounters in 23 previous years taught us? Well, they still call us DCBs for a start…

If the law of averages takes precedent here, this’ll be a draw. That’s how the last three against ’em have gone; it’s also how nearly half in total have ended. For those of you risking your hard-earned wages on an away win this weekend, not so much a word of warning but a 100-page thesis. The Glovers don’t tend to let us win. Yes, we won 3-1 and 6-0 at their place in recent times – but that’s if you think five years ago is ‘recent’. Four of our six wins against Yeovil didn’t even come in this century. As things stand, we’re winless in six here. Hmm.

The Form:

So, what can we tell from our last six games and theirs to boot? Well, you wouldn’t have known before Luton that we were going to ship seven goals based on our form running into that game. For the record, though, it looks like Yeovil’s form is topsy-turvy… much like ours. In the last six, the Glovers have racked up wins versus Crewe and Chesterfield. It may be worth remembering the Spireites are hurtling towards the Conference. It may also be worth remembering  we managed to lose to Crewe not so long ago. We’re none the wiser, then.

Thanks to kickoff.co.uk, it’s much easier to see how the recent form has been taking shape:
