Oh dear. The home defeat to Lincoln at the weekend put us in a right fluffery buffery, make no mistake. Our unbeaten run, for what it counts for at this stage of the season, is gone like the wind. It’s never going to look good on paper if a team with one less man than your own comes from a goal behind to win a game. Well, one man less until Wilko’s red card restored parity on that front. By that point, however, it looked as if Boro’ were huffing and puffing to no avail. Still, there are plenty more fishpoints in the leaguesea for us to chase after…
Stevenage v Crawley Town: The Lowdown
The Opposition:
Our first midweek league fixture of term is the ideal chance to set things right again. Up in front of us indoors and under lights are Crawley Town. In some inane coincidence, our last home match against the Red Devils was 367 days ago. So, it clearly is the season for such a meeting. At least, that’s what the fixture computer reckons. With 12 wins in our 23 meetings to date, matters tend to go more or less our way. And, yet, the side from West Sussex have won two of the four games at our place since we met for the first time in the League. Awkward.
Did we mention that Crawley are now managed by Harry Kewell? No? Oh well…
The Form:
This time, Crawley come to us with the burden of being one of the bookies’ favourites for the drop. Port Vale’s dismal start to the season makes their prospects seem a little brighter at the moment, however. And a couple of wins in recent weeks has lifted them up from the foot of the table; the first, a 3-0 win at Swindon has left us confounded about the relative expectations for both sides involved. The second, meanwhile, came at home to Yeovil. And yet, to go back a step, it was Crawley who gave Port Vale their only win of term so far. Inconsistent.
You shouldn’t need us to tell you where we’re at, should you?
The Referee:
No pains, just gains; that’s what we ask of Andy Haines…
