Bees Up! A Town Down! Yeah, OK – it’s Boro’s first proper ding dong of the new campaign. To the Hive we go; a date with our flippered friends from Barnet awaiting. This is a fixture that often lives up to expectation. And it is, more often than not, a kind fixture to us. Since we joined them in the League, that is. We’ll come back to this shortly, though. First, let’s talk about a fine win indoors against Grimsby. We’re up and running; Danny Newton showing why Darren Sarll moved for him with a third goal in three. That’s not a bad start to life at the Boro’.
Now, for the first win on the road of the term?
Barnet v Stevenage: The Lowdown
The Opposition:
This is a match that gives us the chance to square things up with the Bees. With nine wins to our eight, Barnet still edge matters here. But, let’s be clear. Our first four encounters came in the Herts Senior Cup before we’d even been promoted to the Conference. They, to compare, were (at worst) at the top of the non-league tree (1986 and 1991) and three levels above us. Are we saying that, when league points are at stake, Barnet can be found wanting then? Ah, sure, would we dare? Not least because we don’t want bleedin’ egg on our faces.
The Form:
Look, we deal out credit where it’s due. For Barnet, it’s due in some capacity. Their opening day draw at Forrest Gump tells us a little less than nothing. What does speak volumes, however, is splunkering Luton Town a week after they’d put eight past Woevil. And that came after they’d put one over Peter Borough in the Barry Fry Thai Red Curry League Cup derby. And then they lost to Crewe and Brighton. So, where are they at? Who knows? To be frank, who cares. We’re chasing a first clean sheet of the term. Get that, and we’re half way there.
