Notts County v Stevenage: Fletcher in the boxing ring...

Ding, Ding: Round Two! Or, at least as far as the league is concerned it is. Fresh from our League Cup heroics at Portman Road during the week, we must now go back to the bread and butter of matters. Notts County await in our second league match of the campaign; a match in which at least one of us will get off the mark. And if our head-to-head record with the Magpies is anything to rely on here, the chances are that only one of us will…

We’ve gone up against this weekend’s hosts on nine previous occasions, and we’re down 5-to-4 on the current count. And it isn’t going to make you feel better to hear the last three of those have gone in their favour. Oh, do let us kick you while you’re down if you will – we haven’t so much as scored against Notts County since August 2013. We are thinking that we have much to put right this time around, and hopefully we’ll be able to do just that.

Notts County v Stevenage: Let’s Try That Again…

Crewe indoors? Well, that was an anti-climax in the end. The chance to get our season off to the best possible start was, well, not taken. It was a little uninspiring, but the gaffer has fixed that up sharp enough. So, let’s hope it carries through to our next outing at Meadow Lane. With no new injuries to deal with, Darren Sarll has the luxury of keeping the same starting eleven. Of course, if that’s what he wants. But it’d be hard see why he wouldn’t, though. Surely?

There’s a good reason we don’t manage a football team, however. Even on Football Manager, our team picks were often a source of existential nightmares. Like in the 2007-8 season. We’d just beaten Alty in the land of what’s real and holy, with a quirk of fate pairing us in our next computerised encounter. We chose the exact same team that Peter the Tailor did. We lost 3-0. Inexplicable. Although, it turns out we’re bloody awful at computer game tactics as well.

We digress.

Not much to read into the form tea leaves this early into the season. Our 153-year-old hosts have lost both their fixtures this term by the same margin: 2-0. But, they’re yet to take to the turf at Meadow Lane. On the other hand, we’re one apiece on the win/loss count and no defence has kept us out. Lets face it, you can grab any statistical pile of dung and throw it at your wall to watch what sticks this early on. It’s not going to give you much insight, except that your wall now needs cleaning.

But, here’s a reminder in pretty picture form of Notts County v Stevenage – courtesy of KickOff:
