What about that Yeovil game in midweek, eh? The footballing equivalent of watching BBC Parliament on Valium, we heard that even the town’s most sleep-deprived insomniacs managed to grab forty winks during the second half. The bottom line, we guess, is that we made it back-to-back shut-outs for the first time in 16 months and wedged another point between us and another tour of duty in the GM Vauxhall Conference.
Notts County v Stevenage: Notts The Big Idea?
Next up, it’s Notts County and a trip to visit some pals that have been in a bit of a pickle on and off the pitch lately. It’s thought a new owner could be in place next week, just in time to witness the exciting conclusion of the club’s bid for relegation. Not since a visit to Hartlepool in mid-February have Nottingham’s second team known what it’s like to win. And that’s exactly why they prop up the League Two form table right now.
But let’s not get caught up in the fact the Magpies have now been kept waiting 10 matches for a league win. Instead, let’s focus on a more atrocious set of affairs – their home form. No team has been to Meadow Lane and failed to come away with at least a point since December. That’s December 2015. As in not since 2016 became a thing. More celebs have kicked the bucket in the last three months than Notts have home points.
Probably.
Yes, we’ve been here before. With the second worst defensive record in the division, we should be cock-a-hoop about our chances of getting something here. The odds, however, underline the lack of confidence in our abilities on the road – we’re 2/1 (Marathon) to win. And we’re tempted to stick with Marathon for their 8/9 on Under 2.5 Goals – though it’s the Grand National this weekend, so do spend your wad wisely.
At stake this weekend is the chance to move up at least one spot in the table, for three points takes us above our hosts by virtue of our “superior” goal difference. Much, however, depends on how we continue to grapple with the concept of placing the round air-filled thing in the square netted thing. It has, at times, been like listening to a toddler wrestle with complex theological arguments. And with that, we need a lie down. #UTB!
