Oxford United v Stevenage: Deal Or No Deal

For an ‘orrible moment last digs, we found ourselves shafted right up the time tunnel with the memories of ballsing up a two-goal lead at home to MK Dons in 2014. It was about this time of the year an’ all, putting us on a collision course for a return to League Two. Lightning ain’t meant to strike twice in the same place – if that’s true, it was a bloody good impression of sparkly bang-bang from Northampton last week…

Oxford United v Stevenage: A Good Friday?

Next up – it might surprise you to learn – is Oxford United at their gaff. That said, if it surprises you, the concept of gravity must be a Tommy Tickler to you. Once you’ve had the alleged best, put it around the rest. Northampton are top of the pile, and what better place to start in the following pack than with head chaser. Well, ‘better’ it’d have been had we not already lost 5-1 indoors to ’em.

Our prospects are about as grim as a detective in The Thin Blue Line. But we do try and dig out positives to stoke your inner fires and this is what we found from the League Two form charts. The Us owe much of their position to their away form; if we’re doing things on home form, they wouldn’t make the playoffs as things stand. The same applies to the attacking doings at the Kassam.

It’s good, but it’s not quite Carling.

But it’s irrelevant really, innit? With the exception of our commendably alright record in front of goal on the road, we’ve been a bit pants on our travels for nearly a year. Nearly. And our hosts this weekend have a brutal record against teams who can be found in the bottom six right now – nine wins and a draw, with us and Hartlepool at home the only remaining fixtures of that type to come.

And you reckoned it was just Brian getting crucified this Good Friday!

The bookies are almost labouring to provide odds on this one. A boxing referee wouldn’t let the damn thing come to pass if he was using them as his guide. We’re stacking up at 8/1 with a handful of firms, while you’ll not even get half your stake back if lumping on the hosts. We score more often than not at their place, so Both Teams To Score at 6/5  could be the remedy you’re seeking.

It’d be wrong not to wedge in a mention of Glenn Roeder and his arrival as Managerial Advisor, but we’ll be damned if we’re going to redraft this vocalsplurge. So, there – a mention. We doubt two-or-so days in post is enough to have a significant say on things at Oxford, but it’s Easter – and yer man Jesus only rose from the bleedin’ dead in three days. So, Glenn, the ante has been upped…
