300 minutes – it’s a long time, innit? Empires have risen, fallen and been reimagined on the big screen in the time since Boro’ last found the back of the net. It’s not exactly helpful when you’re being sucked ever closer to the bottom two, but it looks like York and Dagenham are keeping their end of the bargain. That said, it’d be nice to do something for ourselves this time.
Wycombe Wanderers v Stevenage: Pull Up A Chair
After being the ones who set the League Two pace early doors this season, this weekend’s hosts now face a struggle to even get into the playoffs this term. A three-match losing streak in October – one that we contributed generously to – saw the Chairboys plummet from second to 10th, and there have been wild fluctuations as high as 4th and as low as 10th ever since. Inconsistent.
We must admit we didn’t know this. When you’re staring at your belly button fluff down here at the wrong end of the table, the lifestyles of the rich and the famous up there don’t matter much. But for all our flaws of late, there are some crumbs of comfort as Wycombe’s record against teams from our neck of the woods – the bottom third, not Hertfordshire – is pretty shabby.
In 12 outings against the strugglers and stragglers, Wycombe have collected 17 points – the same amount as York. Mind you, it could also be seen in the context that our record against teams in the middle third (for the Chairboys just about are right now) is downright awful. We reserve the right to give you something with one hand and then take it back right away with the other.
But, as we’re in a good mood for it is Friday after all, we did say some crumbs of comfort there. That plural means we can offer something else to raise your hopes, although we won’t be held responsible if you go mad with it. What is it? It’s the fact that we have been to Adams Park three times already, and we haven’t yet lost there – two one-nillers and a two-apiece to report back.
Wycombe don’t have a particularly potent attack, though it’s marginally better at home than on their travels. But their defence is relatively firm. On the flip side, it’s alleged we have the ninth best attacking record away from home this term to go with our leaky, leaky defence. Something probably has to give, even if that something has been our defensive resistance in recent times.
Keep up to date with the latest from the Buckinghamshire hinterlands with a new live scores feature from Hityah, while all the odds for the match can be found at Oddschecker.com. A 5/2 punt on the draw seems reasonable value, but you couldn’t tempt us in a month of Sundays on the 13/5 Paddy Power or Coral are offering on a Boro’ clean sheet. Or could you?
After all, stranger things have happened. Last time we met this lot, our ruddy goalkeeper scored. And seeing that it’s been 300 minutes since we last tickled the onion bag, we might well need our stopper to chip in yet again. To Wycombe then, post haste and hence forth to get this one over and done with at the very least. It’s the top two up next after this one y’know…
