Let’s Talk About Exe…

Stevenage v Exeter City: Oh Matron!

If there’s one team that we don’t have much luck with, it’s Carlisle flippin’ United. It’s not enough to have elbowed their way past us into the League in 2005, but the Cumbrians must have cast some sort of spell because fortune refuses to shine on us when our paths cross. Nor does it much when we go head-to-head with Exeter, which means this could be another frustrating run out…

Stevenage v Exeter City: The Joy of Exe?

On paper, our record against the Grecians looks finely balanced with five wins apiece and seven draws. OK, so you’ll find the goal count has been skewed in their favour courtesy of two four-goal drubbings during the glorious reign of Peter the Tailor, but finely balanced is the overall call. Boro’ might have won just one of the 10 meetings since the 2006-07 campaign, but it’s not all bad.

Most of those 10 games stretched out over the last decade have ended all-square, much like the six-goal thunderblinder of a game played out for the benefit of several Sky Sports viewers in October. In that admittedly arbitrary period, we’ve seen six of the seven draws and three defeats that all came under Taylor’s leadership. The last time we met at home, as it goes, was that solitary win.

And though we a) struggle to score against Exeter and b) struggle to score full stop right now, the game of football is such that we could almost see us pulling their trousers down and giving them six of the best this weekend. That sort of treatment is in us, we’re sure of it, but it might still be a little too much to hope for from a team who have failed to score in six of their matches indoors.

For what it’s worth at a dollar ninety-eight, the Grecians record on the road is passable enough – more victories than at Sid James’ Park, actually. But they’re currently without a win in four league outings and have just two clean sheets on their travels. This kind of encouragement has only let us down in the past, but there’s a bit of the bulldog spirit in us since Teddy left so who knows…

If you’re weighing up your options with the bookies this weekend, hityah introduce new odds feature to help you get the most out of your money. The hosts are in and around 8/5 to make a winning return home, with the Grecians further back at 21/11. Having shared six goals last time out, Both Teams to Score could be a shout too at 3/4. Now, we should have come away from Carlisle last weekend with something to show from our efforts – but that hoodoo reared its ugly head. Up against Exeter on our home patch, it’s time to get even with Lady Luck and squash another apparent boogeyman in the process. Can we do it? Of course we ruddy can. Will we do it? Well, we wouldn’t be doing this if we had the answer to that…
