As it all stands, Boro’ are travelling to Morecambe this weekend with an unbeaten record in 2015. Not only that, but we’ve come out of the Christmas period with three wins to our name and nine points added to the points column of the table. It’s a little run of form that we ought to be making into a big run of form and we might just have a chance of doing that here.
We let the Shrimps off the hook at our gaff a few weeks back. And since they left the Lamex with a point, they’ve picked up six points from a possible 12. Three of those came against Hartlepool United, a team who almost certainly looked doomed and only have Aston Villa lagging behind them in the scoring charts across the top four divisions this campaign.
There’s not all that much separating us this term, with only the Wombles of Kingston sat in between us in the table; them having lost one more and drawing one less than us. We’ve also scored and conceded more than them, with both of us with a goal difference of plus two. That means it’s as even as you could like a Steven to be when we rock up at the Globe Arena.
Our form on the road has been long lamented but we’ve left 2014 behind and have a brand new slate for 2015. Morecambe aren’t having the best of time at home this season, with the 18th best record in the division as we speak. It’s the ideal game in many respects to see if we have turned that corner we’ve long been threatening to (18 months?) so let’s be having it.
We’ve not been able to give this one the once over on FIFA 15 – you can blame a dodgy internet connection and the lack of motor skills that points towards quite the heavy New Year’s celebration.
Onto the verdict of those most humble and virtuous of tradesmen, the bookmaker. It comes across as a strange one, with a best price of 9/5 available on both the home (Ladbrokes) and away (BetVictor) wins. We’re leaning towards Over 2.5 goals for this one (13/10, Betfair) and Charlie Lee is 4s at Betfred to continue his recent goalscoring exploits at Morecambe.
This is the 32nd meeting between us and them. Let’s hope it delivers a 14th win and extends our unbeaten run in 2015.
