Prostate Cancer UK – as you might or might not already be aware – is currently the Official Charity Partner of the Football League. The organisation’s main purpose is to ensure more men survive prostate cancer and enjoy a better quality of life. With prostate cancer still the cause of 100,000 deaths each year in the UK, however, Prostate Cancer UK is calling on all fans to put aside their allegiances and become Men United against this form of the disease.
To coincide with the start of the 2013/4 season, the Men United campaign is looking for an inspirational figurehead to front it – the Football League’s greatest captain. BoroGuide was one of 72 bloggers and the like to put forward their club’s nomination, which will see all 72 put to a public vote in order to achieve a final shortlist of five skippers. Those final five will then go into a playoff (or second vote) to determine Men United’s captain.
Now, we thought long and hard about it (given some of the greats to captain Boro’) but we hope we have put forward a man for whom there will be no dissent – Mark Roberts.
The vote is now open and will remain so until 20 August, so click here to register your vote for the Robbo and lets do our best to get him into the final five. Because if we get ourselves into a bit of a scrap, he’s one man you’d want to be watching your back. And if we’ve made a hash of explaining all that, here’s the official lowdown from those superb chaps (and, uh, chappettes?) at Prostate Cancer UK: http://ow.ly/nSv5d
