Our home form – it’s not great, is it? With Leyton Orient becoming the latest to win at the Lamex, the Home Office have upgraded the Mood-o-meter from Concerning to Alarming. It is now five defeats in six games for Stevenage at home and some fans are no doubt now onto their third and even fourth panic buttons, having given their first and second such a hammering in recent weeks.
Something is currently amiss and something needs to change. However, a lack of tangible solutions means that we’re still stuck with the idea of “something”. After all, we’re still the same team that flirted with top spot earlier in the season. And we’ve even brought in some players to improve the squad since then. It is something of a paradox, therefore, that we’re having such trouble finding some form when we’re playing in our own backyard.
As supporters, we can play our part though. The idea of toddling off to a home game at the moment might make you a little uneasy, but imagine you’re one of the starting eleven who comes out of the tunnel at 7:40 tonight. You emerge onto the pitch and all you can sense is the disconcerted shuffling of 2,000 people who aren’t, how you say, particularly confident. It doesn’t bode well for your own confidence in that situation.
Yes, it is a chicken and egg situation – you want the players to gee you up, but occasionally the players need you to gee them up. So give them your shout of support and egg them on. If you need any motivation, Notts County are not exactly great on the road at the moment and there hasn’t been a draw in four meetings between us. That means there’s a win up for grabs tonight – let’s collectively make sure its ours, eh?
FIFA 13 Verdict:
Still no working controller
Bookmakers’ Verdict:
The bookies are showing little faith in Boro’s ability to win at home, but that means you’d be sitting pretty if we end the home hoodoo – 17/10 at Boylesports are the most attractive at time of writing. Ladbrokes’ 11/10 on Both Teams Not To Score might also be a tempting one to consider; BetVictor will give you 15/2 on a 1-0 home win if you’re brave enough. Or you can get the same price on a 1-0 away win. Everything correct when written…
