Back In The Game

A change in address and a change in employment and suddenly BoroGuide goes missing in action. We do profusely apologise but these things happen – apparently life is not willing to slow down for anyone, let alone Stevenage FC’s leading independent online resource – and we had things we just had to do as a matter of preference. We trust that you are entirely understanding?

So. The last time we spoke, conversed and even wooed… we were in anticipation of our trip to what is now called Coventry. First there was Sutton United and now Stevenage – the Sky Blues do somewhat make a habit of these cup humiliations against non-league teams. Ahh, hang on, we’re League One these days. Note to BoroGuide: must remember this fact. It has only been three years since the Conference…

We are quite sure we once read that Coventry City, in their latter Premier League days, ran out onto the pitch to the mournful sounds of If You Tolerate This by Welsh warblers Manic Street Preachers. The sentiments after two relegations – from the first to the third tier – are no doubt firmly entrenched now, and being beaten by Stevenage cannot help. Read forums of theirs if you’re in need of emotional release.

It means that Boro’ are marching along nicely after the opening few games. Yet to drop any points on the road, and relatively solid at home, we’re sitting pretty up there. But a table at the mid-point of September is as useful as a Mint Aero left in a car glovebox compartment on a summer tour. That said, you must have solid foundations if you want to build a castle.

That’s the metaphor paragraph finished with.

It wasn’t an easy occasion, for sure. Coventry had many chances to win it and Boro’ had to play out the last 10 of the first half with 10 men because Jon Ashton started leaking petrol or whatever the hell powers that man-machine. But the plus points – Robin Shroot is still scoring; Marcus Haber is now scoring; and Pat “Pat” Agyemang is looking sharp. We feel all warm inside.

Did someone mention a destiny train?
